Google Analytics will tell you how many people came to your site through search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc). There are ways that you can get your site to show up in more searches.

Keywords are what people are typing into search engines to get to your website.  Your overall keywords (Traffic Sources -> Keywords) will show what brought people to any page on your website.

You can look at Entrance Keywords for any page on your website and optimize the page by placing keywords in headings, links and the page title.

Yoast is a powerful SEO tool to take your page optimization a step further.  The snippet preview is what appears when you come up in a search engine.

To check your keywords for a specific page:

  1. Login to Google Analytics.
  2. Click on Content.
  3. Click on the page you want to optimize.
  4. Change your date range to show one year.
  5. Click on Entrance Keywords (link on the right side of the page under the Landing Page Optimization heading).

What can you do with this information?

  • Check to see if these keywords are titles
  • Check to see if these keywords are in links
  • Can you change the page title to include any of these keywords?
  • Analyze the page using Yoast

How to use Yoast:

  1. Enter your focus keywords.
  2. Change the title by entering a new SEO title.
  3. Change the description by entering a new Meta Description.
  4. Update the page.
  5. Click Page Analysis tab.
  6. See where you can improve.
