CETD and partner, Metropolis host panel on Immigration Policies in Canada and Germany

CETD researchers Oliver Schmidtke and Phil Triadafilopoulos participated on a panel at the 2012 Metropolis Conference in Toronto on March 2, 2012. Phil Triadafilopoulos focused on his new book “Becoming Multicultural: Immigration and the Politics of Membership in Canada and Germany.” Metropolis is a partner of CETD. Immigration Policies, Practices and Discourse in Settler and Ethnic Nations: Canada and Germany Compared

Do settler and ethnic nations pursue separate or converging approaches towards immigration and citizenship? Using two recent path-breaking books, “Immigration Dialectic” and “Becoming Multicultural”, as entry-points for discussion, this roundtable explores immigration and citizenship policies, practices and discourse in Canada and Germany, exemplifying a settler and an ethnic nation.
