Workshop: Climate Change and Renewable Energy Policy in the EU and Canada

The Canada-Europe Transatlantic Dialogue and the Centre for European Studies (EU Centre of Excellence) are pleased to present a policy workshop on climate change and renewable energy, to be held October 1-2, 2015 at Carleton University.

In the lead-up to the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in December 2015, national and provincial leaders are searching for and debating appropriate policies for Canada’s position. At this workshop, experts and practitioners from Europe and Canada will devote particular attention to the role of ‘new’ renewables, such as wind and solar technologies, in addressing climate change, including issues of public acceptance, policy innovation, and sources of action/inertia in government responses. The potential for cities, provinces, national governments, and supranational bodies to serve as ‘leadership points’ will be explored, along with the way in which the European Union has motivated such initiatives. The particular experience of Ottawa and Ontario, in comparison to European examples, will be highlighted.
